Helen "Maxine" (Young) Stout, 99, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away surrounded by family on Friday, April 26, 2024 - just 19 days shy of turning 100 years old. Maxine was born in Hillsboro, Ohio on May 15, 1924 to Harry and Mary (Carr) Young. She graduated from The Ohio State University with the class of 1946.
Maxine met the love of her life, Maurice “Mike” Stout, in the 2nd grade and started dating him in 8th grade. Maxine and Mike were married on February 4, 1945 while he was home on leave from the Pacific during WWII. They celebrated 71 years of marriage together prior to Mike’s passing on February 18, 2016. Mike’s career in the Soil Conservation Service required them to relocate various times and establish residence in Ohio, Kansas, Texas, South Dakota, and finally, Nebraska all while raising six children. Outside of being a wife and mother, Maxine was an actively-involved member of Eastridge Presbyterian Church, where she played in the Handbell Choir for many years. Maxine found great joy in being with family, traveling around the United States, playing Bridge with her dear friends, cheering on the Buckeyes and Huskers, and working through crosswords and puzzles, even into her late 90’s.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband; son, Dave Stout; grandson, B.J. Stout; daughter-in-law, Dianne (Dooley) Stout; her parents; sister, Ruth Stanforth; and brother-in-law, James Stanforth.
Maxine is survived by her sons: Mike Stout of Tea, SD, Dr. Steve (Peggy) Stout of Fort Pierre, SD, Drs. J. Patrick (Karen) Stout of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jeff (Sandy Wacker) Stout of Lincoln, NE; Daughter: Jane (Wayne) Munsterman of Lincoln, NE; Daughter-in-law: Paula (David) Schuelke of Fernandina, FL; Grandchildren: Casey (Sadie), Michelle, Chris, Allison, Emily (Chris), Rebecca, Henry (Makayla), Remington, Jenna, and Tyler; and Great-grandchildren: Alex, Rachel, Tara, Paige, Jordan, Taylor, Austin, Easton, Ian, Olivia, Alvin, and Valentine.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Eastridge Presbyterian Church, 1135 Eastridge Dr, Lincoln, NE. Maxine’s Celebration of Life will take place afterwards, starting at 11:00 a.m. at the church with a luncheon and birthday cake to follow. The service will also be live-streamed on Eastridge Presbyterian’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. A graveside burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, 6800 S 14th St, Lincoln, NE, meeting at Gate 2 at 1:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Tabitha in honor of the wonderful care that was provided to Maxine in her last years. Condolences can be left at www.lincolnfh.com.
