

As President of her Notre Dame Academy of Omaha junior class, Monica attended Father Flanagan’s funeral. Monica graduated from David City Public School in 1949 and went to work for Butler County.
Monica and John W. Zohner were married on April 20th, 1950 at St. Mary’s Church in David City. They farmed by Shelby, Nebraska for 3 years and then purchased a farm by Rising City, Nebraska, which they farmed from 1953 until 1970. They then moved to Lincoln and John worked for the City of Lincoln until he retired in 1987.
Monica and John enjoyed ballroom dancing. They were members of the Czech Club and had many close friends that enjoyed polka music. After 66 years of marriage John passed away in 2016. Monica moved to Van Dorn Villa.
Monica was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion Auxiliary, and member of the Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society.
Monica is survived by a daughter, Judith K. Zohner; a son, John Henry (Jack) Zohner and wife Debra (Goeschel) Zohner; grandchildren Stacy (Zohner) Woods and husband Ben Woods, Kelly (Zohner) Halverson and husband Kelly Halverson, Lindsey (Zohner) Reinke and husband Joe Reinke; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Monica was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Albertina Beringer; brother Jerome Beringer; and sister-in-law Mildred Beringer. There will be a private burial at a later date.
Monica’s positive personality stood out throughout her life, and she seemed to always see the good in everything. In lieu of flowers or cards, please honor Monica forever by also looking for the good in others.
The Rosary will be held on Saturday, May 2 at 10:00 am with mass at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 3128 S. Street, Lincoln, NE 68503. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
