Robert G. Helter

Robert (Bob) G. Helter, 80 of Hickman, NE passed away surrounded by family March 3, 2016. Bob fought a nearly two year battle with pancreatic and liver cancer. He was born on Aug. 8, 1935 to William and Marjorie (Goodwin) Helter in Lincoln. Bob married Jeanette Mixon Feb. 3, 1956 and they recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1959. Bob “Whitie” worked for Burlington Northern Havelock Shops as a Carman/Welder for 28 years. Bob enjoyed an early retirement with Jeanette and family. Bob was devoted to his family. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather; he was always available for guidance and nurturing. Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was an avid dog lover since childhood; always having a dog or two by his side. Bob was a bird watcher, received master gardener certification and enjoyed building hot rods, model A’s and houses. Survived by his wife Jeanette, daughter Robin (Tom) Gound, son Randy and Gladys, daughter Renee (Rod) Lanik, grandchildren, Adrian Bossung, Katie Bossung, Wyatt Lanik, great grandchild Christian Bossung, sister Lena Kaff, brothers Larry (Bonnie) Helter, Jim (Joan) Helter, numerous nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by parents. Memorial service Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, Lincoln, NE.
