Robert "Bob" Scott MacLauchlan

Born Edmunds, Maine June 19, 1927 to Neil S. and Eleanor ‘Nellie’ Walker MacLauchlan. Attended a one room school house from grades 1-8 with his mother as his teacher. Attended a larger consolidated high school in Dennysville, Maine with eleven in his graduating class. Served in the U.S. Coast Guard, a specialized branch of the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. Asiatic Theater. Graduated from University of Maine. Additional on campus graduate studies at Oregon State, Nebraska, and Oklahoma Universities. Married Doris Ruth Henderson in Pleasanton, California, September 25, 1950. Employed briefly by Agricultural Extension Service in Maine and 37 years by USDA Soil Conservation Service (S.C.S.) with positions in Pleasanton, California; Bellingham, Washington; Harrisburg, Hillsboro and Corvallis, Oregon. In Corvallis he was headquartered on the University of Oregon campus with a cooperator appointment to the faculty and served SCS field offices in Oregon and Washington in plant materials. Transferred back to California serving the state and western Nevada field offices in plant materials. Promoted and transferred to the Regional office in Lincoln, Nebraska serving the 12 mid-western states in plant materials for three years. Promoted and served twelve years as Chief Plant Materials Specialist in the SCS National office, Washington, D.C. providing technical guidance and coordination to the SCS’s 26 multi-state cooperative Plant Materials Centers, while living in Annandale, Virginia. Traveled repeatedly to all fifty states, Puerto Rico, and Virgin Islands providing national leadership and coordination to the SCS cooperative plant materials research. Also participated in technical exchange assignments to Algeria, Mexico, Peoples Republic of China, and the former Soviet Union. Recipients of several awards including the USDA Superior Service Award. Moved back to Lincoln following retirement, 1985. Bob greatly enjoyed the many family get-togethers and the family’s annual camping and fishing trips. He was an avid hunter and thoroughly enjoyed his many deer, elk, and caribou hunts with his son, Neil along with several European trips they took together. Member First Plymouth Congregational Church: member and past president Cornhusker Kiwanis Club; member and past president Chapter 199 National Association of retired Federal Employees; member American Legion, Post No. 3; member and past president of S.C.S. retirees Club; member Izack Walton League; early member Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation; volunteer Tabitha Meals on Wheels for 18 years; an Admiral, Great Navy of the State of Nebraska; membership in several professional organizations and societies while employed. Survivors: daughters and sons-in-law: Debra and John Horner, Omaha, NE; Nancy and George Bess, Crete, NE; daughter Pam Henning, Beatrice, NE; son and daughter-in-law: Neil and Robin MacLauchlan, Seneca, SC; sister-in-law Jean Bloodgood, Livermore, CA; Jim and Peggy Georgis, Manteca, CA; Grandchildren: Jonnie Ruth Horner Robinson (Zac); Jordan Horner Sochor (Joal); David Henning (Rosanna); Steven Henning; Mac Henning (Shaina); Andrea Bess Bridgmon (Nick); Spencer Bess; Garrett and Katie MacLauchlan: Great-Grandchildren: Zane, Leo and Ruthie Robinson (Zac and Jonnie); Uriah and Amaurice Henning (Mac and Shaina); Josiah, Joah, Jagur and Joalie Sochor (Joal and Jordan); Nettle Henning (David and Rosanna); Georgia and Ryker Bridgmon (Nick and Andrea).
