Stephan Paul Kess (Steve), 72, of Lincoln, NE, passed away November 2nd, 2023. Steve was born October 6th, 1951 in Lincoln, NE to Vincent and Frances Kess who predeceased him. He is survived by his Fiance, Iris Thompson, his sons Jase and Conrad (Melanie) Kess. His siblings Tom and Susan Kess, and the mother of his children Cindy O’Connell.
Cindy and Steve met in Lincoln and were married for 15 years. They built a home together on Kess Dr. just south of Lincoln where they raised the boys. Cindy & Steve eventually divorced in 2002. He went on to be with Iris in 2008, who was his beloved fiance until his untimely death. They lived together in South Lincoln for 15 years.
Steve graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School in 1969 and went on to get his Bachelor's degree at UNL in 1987.
He developed his skills as an architectural hardware consultant while working for the family business, Vince Kess Inc. for over 30 years. The last years of his life were spent with Nebraska Iowa Door Services as a project manager, alongside friends and his son, Jase.
Stephan adored his sons and taught them everything they were willing to listen to about how to build and fix things. From bringing his older son Jase into the doors, frames, and hardware business, to helping his younger son build a camper van from scratch. Nothing delighted him more than sharing his knowledge with those he loved and being there when his people needed him most.
He had an unmatched love for his cars, his grand pups, Billie and Mary, his collectable items, and a good strong Margarita! Each spare moment gave him more time with Iris, his sons, and to enjoy good food!
Steve also loved all of the nursing staff at The Journey House where Iris worked. He valued each person there, and they enjoyed his frequent visits.
He was well loved by family in Norfolk, NE, the Galbraith family in Oklahoma, longtime close friends from his generation and especially by Conrad and Jase’s friend group who adored him dearly. He will be missed by all.
A celebration of life will be held at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln, NE on November 17th at 2PM. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to Jase and Conrad Kess.
