Steven Richard Loos, 64, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was born October 23, 1961, in Lincoln, Nebraska, and passed away on March 6, 2026. Steve was faithful, adventurous, overflowing with energy, and he lived with a steady devotion to his family, his community, and his Lord.
Steve graduated from Lincoln High School, where he held a longstanding track record. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan for one year on a track scholarship, carrying forward the discipline, determination, and high energy that would mark so much of his life.
Steve served in the Army at Fort Irwin, California, and Army National Guard in Nebraska, for a combined service of over 30 years, including service in the second Iraq war. Steve's brother Tom and family friend were deployed to Iraq, and he volunteered to transfer from his unit to go with them.
He began working at Lee's Chicken, and later spent over 17 years with Lincoln Industries, where he was recognized as Employee of the Year - an honor reflecting his commitment to hard work, reliability, and pride in a job well done.
A devoted student of the history of Lincoln, Steve enjoyed learning about the places, people, and stories that shaped his hometown. He loved Husker Football, and would often call in to local sport shows on the radio.
Always the historian, he sought out historic area Lincoln and Omaha restaurants, and traveled whenever he could. He especially loved meeting new people and would fearlessly talk with anyone, desiring to leave others feeling seen and welcomed.
Steve attended Berean Church and supported international and local Christian Ministries. He also volunteered at the Humane Societies in Lincoln and Omaha, a fitting expression of his deep love for dogs and his compassionate spirit. Above all, Steve loved the Lord.
Those closest to Steve often remarked that he had the spirit and strength of a 20-year old man in a 64-year old body. Steve was known to wear his fun and crazy Christmas sweaters, even into January. When faced with fears or trials he was known to say, "Victory in Jesus" a phrase that captured the overcoming faith that guided his life, and the hope he carried to the end.
Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents Richard and Lillian Loos and Henry and Effa Mittelberg, and his parents Kenneth and Jeanette (Mittelberg) Loos. He passed away with his brother Thomas Loos in the home that the family has owned for 101 years.
Steve's immediate family include, brother Jon (Joette) Loos, sister Lori (Spencer) Beatty, nephews Nathan Beatty, Noah Loos, Cameron (Stephanie) Beatty, and niece Annie Loos.
