Steven Del Packard, 75, of Lincoln passed away June 22, 2021. Steve was born April 30, 1946, in Beatrice, Nebraska to Delmer and Waunetta (Burney) Packard.
Steve grew up on a farm near Cortland where he loved his childhood dog, a German Shepard named Dusty. After graduating from Cortland High School in 1964, Steve attended Nebraska Wesleyan University before enlisting in the Army in 1967, where he served as a chief clerk. He was honorably discharged from the Army in December 1972.
Steve worked as a book buyer for the Nebraska Book Company after he was discharged from the Army, then started a career in HVAC. He was a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union and was employed by Honeywell, Novartis, and Lincoln Public Schools. Steve’s work ethic and precision were traits that he brought to all aspects of his life.
Steve enjoyed golfing, cycling, eating out with friends, going on cruises, visiting his grandchildren, and attending Lincoln Berean Church. His family remembers Steve as someone who never forgot birthdays, appreciated a cold beer, and meticulously maintained his truck and yard.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his companion, Linda Kirk; son, Chad Packard, daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Rusty Divine; grandchildren, Wyatt, Jarod, and Luci Packard, and Rowan Divine; sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Derrel Hansen; and three nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800, S. 14th St., Lincoln, with inurnment ceremony to follow. After the ceremony, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at Wilderness Ridge restaurant, 1800 Wilderness Woods Pl., Lincoln.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Tabitha Journey House.
