Susanne Camille (Gibbs) Scheinost, age 68 years, of Lincoln, NE, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Sue was born on April 25, 1957, in Omaha, NE to her parents, Jack and Joyce Gibbs. She joined her brother, Dave, and sister, Dianne. Following after her birth, were her brothers, Don and Greg.
Sue attended Mary Our Queen Elementary School before heading to Omaha Marian High School where she graduated in 1975. Sue went on to Kearney State College (UNK) where she earned degrees in Elementary and Special Education. A few years later she attended University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she completed her master’s degree in Deaf Education. It was during this time that Sue met her husband, Barry Scheinost.
Sue asked Barry out for their first date to the Melissa Manchester Concert in 1985, and love followed shortly after. They were best friends, soul mates, and were married on August 30, 1986. Sue and Barry moved into their first home in 1986 in Omaha and experienced the hardships and lessons of home ownership for the first time. Sue and Barry would apply those lessons to their next home in the Lake House in Waterloo NE in 1996. That lake home would be a place of love and joy for Sue, Barry, and their entire family for many years. Numerous family gatherings including Camp Sue-Barry, July 4th Celebrations, Summer solstice parties, and even lake sledding. Like all good stories, they must come to an end. And so, after eighteen years of hard work and lake home maintenance, Sue and Barry moved to the quieter suburban life in 2014.
Sue and Barry would live the remainder of her days in Lincoln, close to family and friends. From there, they would continue their numerous travels every spring and fall to places like Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Jamaica, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and most of the continental US.
Sue had unconditional love for all that knew her. She had an uncanny ability to make whomever she was with feel like the most important person in the room. She showed that love to others through her numerous clubs and foundations she was involved in such as Birthday Club, Marian High School Alumni, Newman Center Girls and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
Sue is survived by her husband, Barry, sister Dianne (John) Mackey, brothers Dave (Leslie) Gibbs, Don Gibbs, and Greg (Lynette) Gibbs, sister-in-law Beth Gibbs; brothers-in-law Fr.
