Thomas Henry Loos, 62, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was born April 3, 1963, in Lincoln, and passed away on March 6, 2026. A hard-working and gentle man, Thomas will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude by all who knew him.
Thomas graduated from Lincoln High School in 1982.
In 1986, Tom started work at Nicolas Parks Construction, building retaining walls across Nebraska. He could carry 90-pound blocks, one in each arm.
When his brother Steve joined the Army, Tom also decided to serve, but in the Army National Guard. He served for over 30 years. He worked as a tank turret mechanic and was deployed to Iraq in 2004-2005. Steve then volunteered to go with Tom's unit to Iraq so they could watch over each other.
Thomas enjoyed watching pro and college football, appreciated watching classic movies and listening to music from the 50's to 80's. He had a strong interest and was well-versed in military history from WWII onward. He collected military books, models and memorabilia. Cutting and splitting wood in preparation for cold winter days was his favorite activity. You would often find Tom working on small engines and helping others repair their cars.
Thomas supported Christian ministries and was known for helping neighbors and friends, remembered by many as a gentle giant (nicknamed "The Bear" or "Friar Loos" by his brothers). Tom leaves a legacy of steady service, strength, generosity and helping others in need.
Thomas was preceded in death by his grandparents Richard and Lillian Loos and Henry and Effa Mittelberg, and his parents Kenneth and Jeanette (Mittelberg) Loos. Tom passed away with his brother Steve Loos in the home that the family has owned for 101 years.
Tom's immediate family include his brother Jon (Joette) Loos and Steven Loos, sister Lori (Spencer) Beatty, nephews Nathan Beatty, Noah Loos, Cameron (Stephanie) Beatty and niece Annie Loos.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am on March 20, 2026, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska.
The family requests memorials in Thomas's honor be donated to Lincoln City Mission.
