

Walter F. Siemsen age 90 of Lincoln passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016. He was born on September 9, 1926 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Rudolf and Marie (Zierenberg) Siemsen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Fairbury High School in 1944. Walter worked at the Montgomery Ward Store in Fairbury for 10 years, until it closed. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 with the 31st Military Police C.S.D. Later he worked as a clerk for the Rock Island Railroad. In 1957 he married Geraldine Junker to which two daughters were born, Julie and Kris. He then entered the construction business and helped build a county jail, nursing home and 2 Wal-Mart stores. For many years during the summer he was a supervisor and bus driver for corn detasseling crews. Walter was a past Sunday school supervisor, past president of York Lutheran Laymen League. He spent many years as a volunteer firefighter. In 1992 he married Rose Grubbs and moved to Lincoln. He worked for Lincoln Public Schools in the transportation department, retiring in 1999. Walter is survived by his wife, Rose, daughters, Julie Siemsen, Kris (Steve) Siemsen Bruhn all of Lincoln; former wife, Gerry Siemsen of Fairbury; brother, Eugene Siemsen of Fairbury; stepsons, Ed Grubbs, Mike (Laura) Grubbs, Mark (Lana) Grubbs, Greg Grubbs, step-grandchildren, Ryan Grubbs, John Grubbs, Mallory Albertson, Carrielle Sedersten and Kaylee Sedersten. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dwaine. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 4325 Sumner Street, Lincoln. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
