

Carmen was born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico in 1939 to mother, Clelia Negron and father, Benito Maya. Carmen was one of 7 siblings; Esther Maya, Miguel Maya, Wilson Maya, Angel Maya, Wallace Maya, Sonia Acosta.
When Carmen was only 4 years old, she migrated to Brooklyn, NY. Shortly after, she then moved to Newark, NJ where she met her late husband Jose D. Rivera and started her beautiful family. Carmen was a strong woman with a sunny disposition, great sense of humor, wit, exuberant character, and many passions including, sewing, knitting, crocheting, watching animal planet, America’s Funniest Home Videos, and puzzles.
Carmen adored animals, and had a love for nature, long car rides, and outdoor adventures.
Carmen truly was one special lady and will be deeply missed by her 5 children, Gladys Jane Rivera, Carmen Theresa Rivera, Irene Joyce Rivera, Joseph David Rivera, Diana Marie Rivera Rios, 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grand children, nieces, nephews, as well as her beloved pets, extended family members and friends.
A celebration of Carmen’s life will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 from 9:00 AM until the 12:00 PM prayer service at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 East St. George Avenue, Linden. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Newark.
Carmen will forever be treasured and deeply missed.
