“Poppy” as she was affectionately known to most, was born to Ignacious Skibo and Mary (Paterak) Skibo. Her parents were Polish immigrants who came to this country as teenagers in search of a better life.
She was predeceased by her parents; her brother Edward Skibo, her sister Helen (Skibo) Zdanovich and her brother-in-law Samuel Zdanovich.
Poppy lost her loving husband of sixty years, Raymond Peplowski, this past December.
She is survived by her two devoted daughters who were her heart, Dawn Wasserman(Rob) and Jill McDonough (Christopher), her wonderful granddaughter who meant the world to her, Nicole McDonough.
She is described by her good friends as kind, thoughtful and compassionate, truly one in a million. She was an intelligent woman of quiet strength and extremely humble.
Poppy had a deep faith in God and would always turn to the Lord in prayer to ask for help for friends and loved ones who were ill or going through hardships.
Family and friends were most important to her; and she gave of herself her time, love and everything she could to all in need. She always put others first. That’s who she was. She loved shopping, shoes, reading and cooking. She cooked with great love and when you ate her food you were transformed to another time when things moved at a slower pace.
Her granddaughter and her formed a strong bond. In her retirement she began picking her up from school and watching her, for many years. They spent much time together and loved each other deeply.
She moved to Clark in her later years where she lived with her husband, Raymond.
Before marrying, she worked at Western Electric for several years as a secretary. She started a family with her husband and worked at her children’s elementary school as a lunch aide and later as a teacher’s assistant for special needs children.
She began working at Prudential Securities Brokerage firm in Elizabeth. The firm changed names and locations several times and she retired from Wells Fargo of Westfield after 32 years of service. She was an invaluable employee, loved by all and she made many life-long friends there.
Poppy has left this world a better place with all the love and kindness she has shared with all. A beautiful soul has passed through the pearly gates of heaven.
