

Born in Havana, Cuba on July 20, 1938, to Ricardo and Lucia Esquivel, he was the middle child of their three children, Ricardo Jr. (deceased), and Maria. In 1961, he married his beloved high school sweetheart, Sara Borges. Together they enjoyed 62 years of marriage, and raised two children. Julio attended the University of Havana, Cuba – School of Civil Engineering (specializing in highways), and graduated in 1965. In 1967, Julio made the decision to move his family from Cuba. First relocating to Puerto Rico, then Florida, and finally to New Jersey where he resided for the remainder of his life. He and his wife Sara raised their family and lived in Elizabeth, NJ. He started his own business, BET Consultants in September 1992 in East Hanover where he served as the Director of Surveying. He worked for 31 years, and continued to provide consulting work for BET after retirement. In his pseudo-retirement, he also served as the Treasurer for the Association of Cuban-American Engineers. He loved his work, and was the happiest when he was working and problem solving. He was a patient husband, a loving father, and an incredible grandfather to his four grandchildren. He was always willing to be the chauffeur for art classes, singing lessons, and practices, and was at every recital, soccer game, track meet, play, and graduation. Later in his life he became the primary caretaker for his wife. Julio was always willing to devote his time and energy to his family without hesitation. Julio was a world traveler who visited over 30+ countries. Regardless of money or mobility, he and Sara made sure to live life and see everything the world has to offer whether that be on the Wall of China, or simply enjoying the scenery of Warinanco Park. He loved animals, especially the squirrels and rabbits who he fed in his backyard. He is survived by his dear wife, Sara, two children: Julio Esquivel Jr. and his wife Donna and Leticia Potash and her husband David ; four grandchildren: Jessica, Jared, Samantha, and Alyssa, as well as his sister Maria. He also leaves behind four nieces and one nephew.
Visitation for Julio will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 East Saint George Ave, Linden, NJ 07036.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a funeral on Friday, April 12, 2024, 9:00 am from the funeral home. Funeral mass St. Genevieve's Church, Elizabeth 10:00 am. Interment Rosedale Cemetery, Linden.
