Hi Escobar family,

I knew Santiago from playing on Xbox and got to know him quite well over the years. We always kept in contact, even through his first cancer diagnosis and recovery. Even though we never met in person, he was such a charismatic and joyful person, when we spoke on the phone or played online, we laughed for hours at such silly things.

We’d send each other gym progress photos, and even after kicking cancer’s ass the first time, he still claimed he was bigger than me and that I needed to catch up, typical Santiago haha. I know it’s been a few years now, but he’s someone I think about regularly. He had such a good heart and a great sense of humour, and I’m genuinely gutted for your loss.

In another life, I would’ve loved the chance to visit him in NJ and reminisce about all the good times we had playing. It brings me real comfort knowing he was surrounded by family until the end. I hope you’re all keeping well. May he rest in peace, he was a great person, and respect to you for raising someone like him.

I had a pleasure of having Santiago during his sophomore year in Hamilton. He always had a positive vibe, always happy and smiling. 
I will always remember you as a strong fighter. 

I had the great privilege of having Santi as a student.  His senior year he was diagnosed with cancer. He was wheeled in for his diploma. The next September i was stopped at a red light and a car honked at me, and was him and his mom.  Not his mom driving. Him.  Strong. Healthy. Full head of hair.  Driving. I cried. Right before the pandemic, he came to visit me.  I cried as hard as I'm crying now. I hugged him,  for a long time, and sobbed with joy.  I showed him his picture in my office and he cried. Santi, you were my kid.  You held me as I cried when I was so happy to see you, now I'm sobbing because I wish I knew you had been declining and been there. You'll always be my kid.  I'm completely broken with this loss. ❤❤❤

Dear Escobar family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I just found out and am filled with deep sadness. Santiago had an infectious smile and was so kind. I remember visiting him in the hospital when he was a senior at Hamilton. He was filled with so much positivity and faith. The love I witness between he and his mother was priceless. 
My fondest memory was when he attended our awards ceremony.  His classmates cheered for joy and filled our auditorium with so much excitement. Santiago’s smile and expression was and will always be unforgettable. He was such a special young young.
