Gary K. Owens, 56, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at his home with his family by his side. He was born May 31, 1966 in Fort Fairfield. As a child, his mom recalls him as being very industrious, picking potatoes and delivering newspapers. In high school, Gary became a CNA.
When he wasn't working hard, he would be seen with his best friends, Martin "Marty' Thompson and Paul Guimond having fun around town.
Gary attended University of Maine at Presque Isle, he obtained his Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice and Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science. While attending UMPI, Gary worked for 13 years in the Cafe. He always greeted everyone with a smile and always made students feel welcome. He would often walk around and speak to everyone. If someone was alone, Gary would sit with them and get to know them.
While on campus, Gary fell helplessly in love with his future wife, Cynthia “Cindy” Burleigh (a freshman student).They were married May 20, 1995. Gary has two children, Caitlyn Owens and Christopher Owens and a granddaughter, Mackenzie Owens. Gary adored his family, they were his pride and joy. Mackenzie brought a twinkle in his eye, he loved being her Papa.
Gary was known to have a great sense of humor and a bit of a prankster especially with his fraternity Brothers and Sisters of Kappa Delta Phi. Gary was affectionately called "Brewtime", He was dedicated to preserving the history of the chapters of the fraternity and sorority. He was also involved with the charity work that Kappa did. Gary touched many lives of the young men and women and will be greatly missed. Especially his Brother, Jeffrey "Wizard" Willette.
Gary worked most of his life as a Residential Technician for various group homes first with children and then adults. He had a special talent for connecting with the residents and nurturing their growth.
Gary is survived by his wife Cynthia "Cindy" Owens; Daughter, Caitlyn Owens; Son, Christopher Owens; granddaughter, Mackenzie Owens; Mother, Janet (Doughty) Owens; sister, Cindy Owens; brother, Jonny Owens; In-laws, Glenn and Glenna Burleigh, Pam and Paul Cleaves; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Sunday October 2, at 2pm at the Corinth United Methodist Church,275 Main Street, Corinth, Me.
