Harpswell - Jeffrey J Jones, 48, of Perry, GA and Harpswell, ME was killed, in action, on July 31, 2023, near Bakhmut, Ukraine. He was born in Lewiston on September 5, 1974, a son of Earline Judd Jones and Howard F Jones Jr. He was educated at Bowdoinham schools and graduated from Mt Ararat. He served in the Airborne Division of the US Army, and previously worked at Abbott Labs in Westbrook. At Abbott he helped set up the facility and manage a line for COVID-19 Test Kits.
Jeff traveled to Ukraine twice to help the Ukrainian people, particularly the children. Jeff supported humanitarian efforts and served on a volunteer medic team near the front. He also volunteered for the American Ukrainian Foundation. However, Jeff believed his skills were most needed in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, so he joined in June to fulfill his sense of purpose. He used the skills he learned in the Army, as a Spartan Racer, and on the medic team in Ukraine, to train Foreign Fighters in Ukraine. He was protective of the Foreign Fighters in his group, particularly the younger, inexperienced fighters.
Jeff enjoyed traveling and Spartan Races. He will be missed but will always have a special place in the hearts of family and friends.
He leaves his wife Sondra Jones of Brunswick, Maine; one son Kyle Jones of Brunswick; one step-daughter Skylar Goldwaite of Brunswick; three sisters Lisa Kinney and husband Greg of Aurora, CO, Laura Jones and husband Timothy Martel of WY and Jennifer Jones Day and husband Scotty Day of Littleton, CO; his brother Howard F Jones III and wife Emma Jones of Ferndale, WA; two aunts Sheila McAllister and husband Val of Caratunk, ME and Grace McWalter of Lunenburg, MA; his Uncle Tom Jones and wife Sharon Jones of Mason NH; and numerous nieces and nephews. His mother, Earline Judd Jones, of Bowdoinham, Maine and his grandfather and grandmother, Ralph Judd and Earline Joanne Judd of Lisbon Falls, were predeceased.
