

Espeland-Mathey, Cynthia Ann, age 54, of Aurora, IL., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, peacefully at home with her beloved husband of 24 years, William and their daughter Kendall, 18 by her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is also survived by her two stepchildren, Bill (Lynne) and Cary (Dave) Gawel; four grandchildren, Teegan and Cori Mathey and Andy and Brynn Gawel; father Jack (Gini) Espeland; sisters Pamela and Bobby; several step-brothers/sisters, brother/sister in-laws and her cat, Mocha. Preceded in death by her mother, Roberta Espeland, and grandparents Mary and Robert Ralls and Olga and Hjalmar Espeland. Cindy graduated from Glenbard West High School, class of 76’ then worked for Hyatt Hotels for 30 years, starting as a server and rising to Associate Director of Catering. In 2005, she was named Catering Manager of the Year. She was a voracious reader and a great fan of the Aurora Public Library Bookmobile, where the librarians came to know her so well that they picked out books for her. Cindy and her love for the Bookmobile were featured in an article published in “The Voice,” Aurora’s community newspaper, on April 7, 2011: “Her discovery reads well: The Library outside her door.” Memorial visitation 3-7pm and service at 7pm at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Avenue, Lisle (On Rt. 53, ½ mile south of Ogden Ave./Rt. 34) on Sunday, August 18.
