Janet Mae Hantsch, (nee Peternel) age 80, at rest May 30, 2017 at her home in Lisle. Beloved wife of 56+ years of Joseph C.; loving mother of Mary (the late Vladimir) Mikhailov, Theresa (Konstantin) Mikhailov, JJ, Patty, Christina (Brian) Bardsley, Laura (Brett) Oliver and Michael (Jennifer); dearest grandmother of Katerina, Alexander, Nicholas, Brian, Jack, Briana, Lillian, Chester and Mae; devoted daughter of the late John and Mildred Peternel; dear sister of the late Richard Peternel; fond niece of the late Fr. Warren Peternel, OFM, the celebrant of her marriage in August 1960 to Joseph, the love of her life.
A proud graduate of St. Xavier School of Nursing, Janet spent the majority of her career as a registered nurse and counted her nursing school classmates as some of her best friends her entire life. She looked forward to getting together with them every year. Janet was a lifelong White Sox fan and the reason her children are all, to this day, diehard White Sox fans. She was the founding president of the Nellie Fox Fan Club and successfully lobbied for Nellie to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Janet will always be remembered for her love of friends and family, especially her grandchildren, a good polka she could get up and dance to, a scoop of butter pecan ice cream, and a piece of white chocolate bark from Fannie May.
She will be missed dearly by her husband and all who called her mom or grandma but will be remembered for the love and compassion she showed everyone, always proclaiming at holiday gatherings that there was room for one more at the table, as well as her occasional one-line zingers and the simple but profound advice she gave her children.
