

Margaret (Peggy) Kelso was born January 19, 1921 to Edwin and Ella (Stetson) Wade. Peggy was one of five siblings all who preceded her in moving on from this life. Peggy passed on from this life on July 12, 2021. Peggy is survived by her three children and their spouses: Beth (Bob) Shook, Pam (John) Grubb and Art (Paula) Kelso as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her husband of 65 years, Albert F. Kelso, and her parents.
Peggy’s career began the summer of 1941 and 1942 at Maywood Park Recreation. She then worked at Chicago YMCA from 1941 – 43. During the summer of 1943 she worked at the Decatur, Illinois YWCA. During the war, while Al was serving abroad with the Navy, she moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania and worked at the YWCA from 1943 - 45 and also served as Camp Director during the summers. Peggy then worked 10 years from 1951 – 1961 as Director of the Women’s and Girls Department of South Chicago YMCA. She taught physical education at George Williams College from 1961-1965 and served as the coach of the volleyball and swimming teams. Her last employment was as Department Chair of the Physical Education Department at Dominion University from1965 – 1990 where she again coached volleyball. She was a volunteer Girl Scout Leader. Peggy served on the National YMCA Swimming and Diving Committee establishing girl’s participation in National competitions. Other interests after her family were her church, coaching, dance, and swimming. She was an active member of various churches throughout her life and a supportive church volunteer from 1951 – 2020. She also enjoyed her time volunteering in the resident’s store while residing at Waterford Estates from 2008 – 2016. Most recently Peggy was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church of Tinley Park, Illinois. Peggy will be remembered for her love of family, strong faith, her servant attitude, and strength of spirit. Peggy lived her faith with an open and welcoming heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Faith United Presbyterian Church located at 6200 167th Street; Tinley Park, Illinois 60477 at 3:00pm on Saturday, July 31, 2021. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Faith United Presbyterian Church would honor Peggy as she would prefer money not be spent on flowers.
