Mary B Henderson

She attended grade school in Wayne, KS and graduated from Belleville High School. Mary attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS and Palerno Secretarial School. After the death of her father in 1946, she moved with her mother to Salina, KS and worked at University C.I.T.

On February 1, 1948 in Salina, KS, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Duane L. Henderson and to this union, four children were born. The family lived in Belleville, KS until 1957 when they moved to Peoria, Il. In 1970, they moved to Darien, Il and in 1977, Lisle, IL.

Mary was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove. In earlier years, she and her husband taught Sunday school, sponsored the high school youth group, and worked with Cub Scouts. Her church was very important in her life. She was a volunteer at Edwards Hospital in Naperville, and worked as an executive secretary at Service Master Industries from 1970 to 1985.

She enjoyed traveling with her family, especially the time the entire family went to Colorado together, or the beach at Fripp Island, South Carolina, as well as many other beloved family trips. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, flower gardening, walking, playing the piano, and being outdoors. Mary enjoyed her title as the matriarch of the family, organizing family gatherings and holidays.

Mary will be remembered as being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a constant source of comfort and guidance to her family.

She was survived by her husband of 74 years, Duane Henderson; sons, Mark, Steve, Scott (Jean); her daughter, Susan (Mark) Casey; four grandchildren, Meghan Casey, Matt (Bri) Casey, Kevin (Danielle) Henderson, and Lisa (Joey) Johnston; great grandchildren, Ben, Carter, Lilyana, and Jace. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters, Helen Nelson Williams, and Adeline Nelson Johnson.

Memorial Service, Monday, April 18th, 10 AM at First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove, 1032 Maple Ave., Downers Grove. Celebration of Life Luncheon, 12 Noon at Seven Bridges Golf Club, 1 Mulligan Dr., Woodridge following the Memorial Service.
