Born on December 9, 1954, Elder Diggins answered God’s call to ministry at a young age. A devoted lifelong member of the Church of God in Christ, he served faithfully and with distinction in the music ministry, Christian education, and by preaching the uncompromised Gospel of Jesus Christ. In the spring of 1984, following the retirement of Elder Golden Crump, he was appointed pastor of Deliverance Temple Institute COGIC - formally known as The Mother Church (Happy Street).
His influence extended beyond the local congregation. Elder Diggins served on the Church’s district and jurisdictional levels, notably as an accomplished musician, Revelation District President, and Second Vice President of the Jurisdictional Youth Department. Whether in leadership or service, Elder Diggins led with humility, compassion, wisdom, and a heart especially for young people, leaving an indelible impact on the church and the community.
A proud graduate of the Malvern High School (Class of 1973), Elder Diggins went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education, with a minor in English, from Henderson State University. He dedicated nearly 30 years to public education, teaching in the Prattsville, Little Rock, and Jacksonville, Arkansas Public School Districts. In every classroom, behind every pulpit, and at every organ bench, his life reflected a deep devotion to God and an unwavering commitment to uplifting others.
Elder Diggins was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Mary Helen Diggins; sister, Martha Salter; brothers Benjamin Diggins, Jr. and James Diggins. He leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Helen Murchison (Richard) and Carrie Hunter; brother, John Diggins (Lorine); along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, former students, and his beloved church family – all of whom will forever cherish his legacy of faith, leadership, and education.
