Barbara Scheiner 83 of West Orange, NJ died on November 2nd 2017 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Daisy and Ben Dorin, Barbara, known to family and friends as Bobbie, spent most of her life in New Jersey (first in Verona, then West Orange) where she raised her family with the love of her life, her husband Stan.
Bobbie began her career as a lab technician and phlebotomist, but chose to be a full-time wife and mother when her children were young.
As her children grew, Bobbie decided to focus on a new career, going back to school at the age of 42 to pursue a degree in Health Administration from Montclair State where she graduated summa cum laude In 1981 Bobbie’s, closest friend, Sheila Grossman, who was the Director of Early Childhood Education at Temple B’nai Abraham in Livingston, asked Bobbie to help her out during the summer program. Bobbie spent the next 27 years there as a much beloved nursery school teacher. She retired at the age of 73.
She was an active member of Temple Sholom of West Essex in Cedar Grove where she was instrumental in developing its first early childhood program and co-chaired the membership committee.
She loved the visual and performing arts and was a talented sculptress in her own right - chiseling beautiful marble sculptures which adorn her home.
Bobbie was able to take advantage of Stan’s international marketing career and travelled all around the world. But she was a homebody at heart, loving nothing more than spending time with her family and close friends. She was a wonderful, beautiful woman who brought love and joy every day and will be missed by everyone who knew her. Bobbie is survived by her husband of 61 wonderful years Stan, her children Jennifer Shapiro (and husband Ben), Laura Scheiner and Gary Scheiner (and wife Sue), her siblings Eileen Dorin and James Dorin, and her four grandchildren, Zachary, Rebecca, Meredith, and Lindsey, who were the lights of her life.
