I just remembered a very funny story Barry told me. As a fellow pilot, he told me that many years ago he studied to be a pilot as well. On his solo flight practicing to get his certification, he got disoriented and got lost for over an hour. Eventually, he found his way to an airport and decided not to continue flying lessons.

My name is Christa and I worked for Barry Herman between 2000 and 2001. He, very new music like no one else. He loved the bigger bands just like my dad did and I did learn about music from Mr herman. His bands played weddings and bar mitzvahs and we're second to none. I know he leaves behind his wife Cherie as well as two remarkable daughters. Barry was a very intelligent and a very knowledgeable man in a music lover. God bless do he and his family.

I was so sad to hear this news. I'll always remember Barry as a kind and soft spoken gentleman that was always impeccably dressed . My sincerest condolences to Cherie and the entire Herman/Janoff family . May his memory be a blessing.

This may be an Italian American way of honoring him, but it is something for which he was rarely if ever given credit for, but I will say this.   Barry Herman put a lot of food on a lot of tables. Mine included.

My deepest condolences to the Herman family. I met Barry Herman dozens of times at his events through the years and he was always a perfect gentleman. Very soft spoken and always classy. His success never altered his principals,  he treated everyone the same no matter what or who they were. May the Lord grant him all the blessings of heaven.

My deepest condolences to Barry entire family.  

Barry and I met at a Friends of Old-time Radio (FOTR) convention in Newark  25-30 years ago, and we bonded over our mutual love of OTR.  Over the years we traded shows,  and met annual at FOTR.  I had a marketing/PR agency, and for a while I had a client in northern NJ, and when I was in town, Barry and I would meet for lunch or dinner.  Our friendship once even extended into a  business relation; Barry hired me to write some marketing materials for a project. I don’t remember the job details.

I don’t remember the year, but one Sunday morning after the convention ended, Barry invited me and two other Boston people who drove down with me to his home for bagel-and-lox breakfast (the Jewish "Breakfast of Champions"), followed by funtime playing with his elaborate electric train set-up in the basement.  In recent years, our contact was primarily trading jokes via email.

Barry will be missed. My condolences go out to Cherie and the rest of  the family.  His passing marks the end of an era in the entertainment business.  I know I speak for the rest of my band, (Fantasy) when I say thank you Barry for all the good years!  Rest In Peace Sir.

Hard to believe that Barry  has passed on to the eternal life. When you  meet & work with a person like Barry, you almost feel he would live forever as you experience his intelligence, wit, charm, & total dedication. He always knew how to make us better at what we do as professional entertainers & how to become better people. Me & my wife Teresa can certainly affirm we learned a lot from Barry as we worked for him & Cherie for many years. He will certainly be missed, and forever in our hearts. In the late 90’s, I worked as a vocalist with  and leader Benny Rosa in the Barry Herman Entertainment bands,  “Karisma” and “The Source.” Barry was supportive, and a pleasure to work with. We were so sorry to learn of the passing of Barry Herman. He was a gentle soul who brought life & music to everyone’s lives. All of our special events were made more beautiful through his entertainment. He brightened all the lives that he touched. What a wonderful legacy he has left in his beautiful family. Barry was the most amazing band leader. My Bat Mitzvah was absolutely incredible thanks to him. I love that as an adult I’d know him like family thanks to the Janoff’s. Rest peacefully, sweet Barry. Thank you for the memories 🙏🏼

I met the great kind compassionate Barry Herman under horrible circumstances. Barry was the band leader at the WO Manor. 

I was a the first Jewish police officer in WO at 20yrs old. The call went out zone four assault in progress. 

I arrived at the Manor and saw a man on top of Mr. Herman pummeling his face. I subdued the assailant with a few shots from my nightstick and placed him under arrest. 

Two yrs later I was in Newark to testify and the bad guy was dealt with. After the trial Narry called me over hugged me and thanked me for saving his life. 

He drove me ba k to police HQ - gave me his card and said should you or yours need anything call. 

Two years later my brother Kenny Alswang was starting his photography career and needed to support himself by bartending. I called Barry and I asked if he remembered me. He said of course / he had my great brother go to the crystal Plaza to meet another great man Alan Janoff. He hired Kenny on the spot and after three years had Kenny shooting weddings etc at the crystal. I got married at the Crystal in 1987. In 07 I got remarried and visited Barry who once again hugged me. He took special care of us - it all came together for my brother and for us. His impact on my life and especially my brother will never be forgotten.

Barry was a big part of my life. I saw him every week for decades as his drummer. We played four jobs every weekend from tiny Shuls to dozens of catering houses. I also started singing with the band and Barry dubbed me “Latin Louie”
for all the cha-cha lyrics I sang . I also designed the Tuxedo  logo for his bandstands. Playing all those jobs with Barry was important to a young couple … he was very generous and it made a big difference in our lifestyle. But more than being my band leader he became a dear friend for life. When I left the band for a growing writing career I kept in touch with him and was even able to have him create a casino night for our Temple. 
I  spoke to him a few months ago and this was sad news for me. I loved him and will miss him.

Barry Hrman was a true genius.  He was a Master Musician.
Barry entertained at thousands of functions and he touched more families than anyone can count. He will truly be missed, andhis memory will live on. When  one thinks of Barry Herman, what  comes to mind,  is the legandary, Caring, Class Act of a Man. 

Barry was the mentor, who took you under his wing and guided us on how to do something  extremely well, while achieving success, as well as making one's mark in the entertainment industry.

Barry Herman: Man Among Men,  Billiant Performer,  Unique Supportive  Personality,  Plethora of kindhearted Traits,  Admired by all, Highest Standards of  professionalism who kept  audiences coming back for more, always  Providing  "Empty Chairs, Rave Reviews"  for decades.

Barry ... You are and always will be our Hero.
