Groner – David, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2016, at home surrounded by his family. Dave was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a devoted husband to his wife of 63 years, Anne, who passed away in 2013. Born in the Bronx in 1920, Dave grew up on Mosholu Parkway and attended DeWitt Clinton High School before enlisting in the US Army Air Corps. A decorated World War II veteran, he survived 23 days in the Burmese jungle in October 1943 after the C-46 aircraft on which he served as Crew Chief was shot down. His efforts to evade hostile Japanese forces and leadership in delivering himself and his crew to safety earned him a Bronze Star Medal. A longtime Florida resident but forever a New Yorker who loved golf, a good steak, the New York Yankees and, most of all, his family, he is survived by his two children, Barbara and Bill; son-in-law John; daughter-in-law Sue; six grandchildren, Jesse, Andrew (Mikey), Alexandra (Carrick), Tracy (Will), Victoria and Hudson; and two great-grandchildren, Georgina and James.
