The Bernardsville Library Foundation mourns the loss of one of its Honorary Trustees, Eugene Kalkin, who passed away on November 14.  Eugene and his late wife Joan were supporters of the Bernardsville Library Foundation.  We send our deepest condolences to his family.

One of the nicest people I ever met.  Such a  great energy, every time you would see him.  A smile that lit up the room.  I will miss him.

This is from Barbara Mason. I was Eugene’s personal trainer for more than 20 years. He was lifting weights with me as recently as last week! He was an incredible man. Always enthusiastic and eager to work hard. He knew life’s challenges very well and never shied away from them. He was an inspiration to all of us! We will miss him terribly.

I met Eugene and Joan when I was 12 years old.  They moved into the house next to us in Short Hills, NJ.  Eugene became my mentor. He was a wonderful human being.  He led me to the succesful path I took 
in my life.  I moved to Bernardsville shortly after Eugene and Joan moved there.  I remember sitting with him at his house many times and discussing my future.  He was like a father to me.  I will always cherish the moments together.

It is with deep sadness that we write upon learning of the loss of our dear, dear friend Eugene Kalkin.  We have known Eugene for many years, having met his family in Chilmark, MA.   As neighbors - with an accurate throw we could have exchanged notes by a stone's throw - for over 40 years, including this just completed summer season, we were blessed to spend numerous occasions together.  We especially loved our many diverse and stimulating dinner conversations and will miss being together with this wonderful man. Eugene was and will remain very dear to us, and our family, and as we remember him, he will be with us always.

Truly will miss you and our conversations about all aspects of world issues.  I learned more about business and finances from you. I always felt love from all your family and Denise is where she is today because of your advice and guidance. Thank you for our 13 years together.

I will miss you Eugene.  Every time we interacted, my mood was elevated, my spirit was stronger.  You led with your heart and our world was better for it.  You are alive in me for as long as I walk this earth.  Thank you for being a mensch!
