

Harold 'Hesh' Cohen World War II veteran, longtime Springfield CPA, Shackamaxon CC president, sports standout as a youth and Hall of Famer Harold "Hesh" Cohen died peacefully on Wednesday at home in Springfield, N.J., surrounded by his loving family. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. at Bernheim-Apter- Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, N.J. Harold was born in Newark, N.J., and also maintained a residence in Aventura, Fla. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Cohen had actively worked in his own practice for the past 62 years as a certified public accountant in Springfield, N.J. During his years at Weequahic High School (Class of 1942), he was voted All-City, All- County, and All-State, in both basketball and baseball. Harold maintained membership at Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael, Springfield, N.J., and at Shackamaxon Country Club, Scotch Plains, N.J., where he was past president. In 1991, he was inducted into the Newark Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2005 he was inducted into the JCC-Metrowest Sports Hall of Fame. Harold was the devoted husband of 66 years to Rita (Blumenfeld); loving father to David, Lori ( Barry) Ress, and the late Bruce; and he was a cherished grandfather and uncle.
