Harriette Sylvia Altshuler died at 99 on March 25, 2026 in her home in Queensbury, NY. Daughter of Harry and Tessie Klein, she was born and grew up in Irvington, NJ. Her husband of 78 years, Herbert Altshuler, and her sister Alma Walensky and brothers Gerald Klein and David Klein, predeceased her.
After graduating from Irvington High School, where she was a member of the archery team and voted the girl with the prettiest smile, Harriette attended Antioch College and Montclair State Teachers College. In 1946 she married Herbert Altshuler on his return from military service in the Marines. The couple moved to Livingston, NJ in 1953, where they raised their sons Bruce, Steven, and Randy. An extraordinarily caring, warm and supportive mother, with an open and positive attitude toward life, she was adored by her family and friends.
Harriette and Herb moved in 1993 from Livingston to their country home in Chatham, NY, where they would live until moving in 2005 to a cottage at The Glen at Hiland Meadows in Queensbury, NY. During their many years of marriage, they enjoyed an active life of international travel, happy family events, and a deep, loving relationship in which they held hands each night on going to bed. Harriette is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Bruce Altshuler and Holly Hughes, Steven and Fran Altshuler, and Randy and Mary Grant Altshuler, grandchildren Matthew Altshuler, Aaron Altshuler, Jacob Altshuler, Sam Altshuler, and Tessa Altshuler, greatgrandchildren Michaela, Brennan, Berkley, Lucky, and Maisy Altshuler, and greatgreatgrandchild Harrison Bedard.
