
Herbert A. Vogel, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Morris County New Jersey (43 years), Loveladies, New Jersey (38 years) and Longboat Key, Florida (22 years), beloved husband and best friend of Harriet Vogel (deceased), devoted father of David Vogel with his wife Alison Rosen Vogel and Liz Gurevitch with her husband Glen Gurevitch, grandfather of Melissa, Dani, Matt and Abby, died on September 10, 2021, in Sarasota, FL. Herb was born in Passaic, New Jersey and was the son of Ruth Serlinsky and Irving Vogel. Harriet and Herb were married for 51 years and devoted to each other and to their family and their many special friends who they considered part of their extended family. In recent years, Herb found love again with his partner Joan Simmons.
Herb had many passions in his life but none were more important than his wife, children and grandchildren. Herb truly loved life and lived it with passion, energy and enthusiasm. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, he practiced law for almost 40 years and was a founding partner of the law firm of Vogel, Chait, Collins and Schneider in Morristown, New Jersey. He also served in the Army in Alaska as a ski trooper working primarily on special educational assignments and as a Chaplains Assistant.
Herb loved being outdoors and always lived near the water. All of his activities revolved around spending time with his family and friends. He was a prolific writer and left his family and friends with many great stories of his life. Herb also loved to travel and took many trips all over the world. He arranged many family vacations even after his children left the house and started their own families.
Herb truly loved life and deeply touched many lives, he will be missed by many.
The funeral service for Herbert Vogel will be held Friday, September 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey 07039. The service will be held indoors with social distancing and masks required. The Funeral Services will also be live streamed for those who cannot or chose not to attend in person. Following the funeral service will be a burial at 12:30 PM at Beth Israel Cemetery, 19 Ridgedale Avenue, Cedar Knolls, New Jersey 07927. There will be a gathering immediately afterwards outdoors at the home of Herb’s son and daughter-in-law, David and Alison Vogel. Over the next few days, there will be opportunities to gather informally. Formal Shiva Services will be held at 7:00pm on Saturday September 18th and 7pm Sunday September 19th at the home of David and Alison. Please contact the family for details.
In remembrance of Herb's life, the family asks in lieu of flowers any charitable donations be made to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.jdrf.org). This organization is very special to Herb and our family in support of his wife, Harriet and her struggles with diabetes.
