Joseph Rosenberg

Joe was born on April 10th, 1933 in Eschwege, Germany to Bernhard and Meta Rosenberg. Despite centuries of German heritage, in 1939, Bernhard and Meta were forced to shutter their family business and flee their homeland with Joe (then 6 years old) and his older brother Ernest and sisters, Leah and Tirza, to escape the grave threat of Nazism. They set sail for America in April 1939 and settled in New York City.

As a youngster on the mean streets of the south Bronx, Joe learned to fend for himself and would take odd jobs to earn money to help support the family. At almost 18 years old, he left NY for Israel to join a kibbutz and help build the newly constituted Jewish homeland. 3 years later he returned to the US to serve in the armed forces.

From humble beginnings as a young immigrant boy in the south Bronx, Joe rose to prominence on Wall Street as Chief Investment Officer of Loews Corporation. Joe was renowned as a great investor, but also a trusted advisor to the Tisch family and a wonderful mentor to many colleagues, counterparts and countless others who had the good fortune of knowing him. He also served his country as a member of the

Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee where he shared his insights on markets and often made recommendations at odds with the status quo.

In addition to Wall Street, Joe had a passion for the outdoors. He shared these activities with his family.

With his devoted wife Aleza of 65 years, Joe raised three children, Ruth, Judy and Ari, in Maplewood, NJ. In his later years he would come to enjoy spending his winters in Palm Beach, Florida hosting family and friends.

Survived by his loving wife Aleza, daughters Ruth Rosenberg (husband Bennett Levitan), Judy Rosenberg (husband Randy Haase), and Ari Rosenberg (wife Alisa Mall), grandchildren Daniella and Gil Levitan, Zach, Ben and Aiden Haase, and Aerin and Alex Rosenberg. Joe’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

A funeral service for Joe will be held Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey 07039. Following the funeral service there will be a burial at 2:30PM at Beth Israel Cemetery, 1098 Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, NJ 07095.
