

Born and raised “in every borough of New York City but Staten Island”, as he told it, he moved to Livingston in 1970 with his family for the remainder of his life.
Joseph served in the Allied Army during the occupation of Japan after World War II, where he enjoyed teaching Japanese children how to play baseball.
He earned a BS degree in accounting and an MS in Taxation from New York University. He had a long and distinguished career with the Internal Revenue Service, rising to the position of Assistant Regional Commissioner for audit in the North Atlantic Region. The North Atlantic Region serves the states of New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. He also served as an Economics Attaché at the American Embassy in Germany from 1982-1984.
Joseph is predeceased by his beloved sister, Bella Gold. He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Miriam, his children Carole (Dan Halbert), Michael (Janet Gitterman), and Ruth (Neal Black); his grandchildren Amy (Edoardo Balzani), Adam (Robin Harney), Eric, Morgan, Jason, and Jesse and his nephews David and Marvin Gold.
His family would like to warmly thank the staff at Brookdale Florham Park and Serenity Hospice for their compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held at Bernheim Apter Kreitzman, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ on Thursday, November 3 at 1PM, followed by interment at Beth David Memorial Park, Kenilworth, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's New Jersey (ALZNJ.org).
