Growing up he worked at his parents’ fruit and vegetable store, and sold Good Humor ice cream. He graduated from Weequahic High School and Upsala College and then served in the U.S. Army. Meanwhile, he met and married his wife Arlene (Williams) in December of 1956.
As a Certified Public Accountant, Marvin ran his own firm for many years, as well as worked for Allied Beverage Group, previously Baxter Warehouse, continuing his work up until the end.
While this role held great importance in his life, his role as father, and Poppy to his granddaughters and great-grandchildren maintained top priority.
Marvin was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan, who loved going to, and later, tuning into every game.
He looked forward to spending Friday nights at temple, and cherished observing the holidays with his family. He was fond of shows and musicals, and found great joy in bringing his family to Broadway. He took pleasure in listening to Frank Sinatra, and frequented many concerts. He spent many summers with his family at the Catskills and Atlantic City, and introduced his children and grandchildren to the magic of Disney World.
Marvin was a dedicated Seinfeld fanatic, endlessly quoting lines and scenes, and watching reruns each night. One of his favorite memories includes being called up from the audience with Arlene, by none other than Jason Alexander for a musical number during a performance at the NJPAC. He loved meeting celebrities and capturing photos with them whenever he got the chance.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Arlene, two daughters Terri Malanda (Richard) and Randi Miller-Markowitz (Larry), granddaughters Dana Campion (Daniel), Rhia Correia (Victor), Rachel Miller (Fiancé Ryan Rebasch) and Taylor Miller (Fiancé DJ Frione), and great-grandchildren Lucas, Dylan, Mateo, Chloe, and Jake.
He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Jennie (Eichler) Bartfeld, and his son-in-law Kevin Magnusson.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 24th at 11:00 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, located at 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ, 07039. Followed by burial service at Beth Israel Cemetery, located at 1098 Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, NJ 07095.
