

The son of Louis and Emily Slater, Mr. Slater, known as Bobby to his family and friends, was born in Newark, New Jersey, on July 6, 1940. He was a 1958 graduate of Columbia High School in South Orange, New Jersey, where he became a New Jersey state diving champion, and was inducted into the Columbia High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. In 1962, he graduated from Lehigh University, where he became an Eastern United States diving champion. After college, Mr. Slater served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964.
He was a current resident of Mendham since 2001, and formerly a resident of Short Hills and Livingston, New Jersey. Mr. Slater was Chairman of LRF Slater Companies, Inc. of Livingston, New Jersey. Mr. Slater was previously Executive Vice President at Channel Home Centers headquartered in Whippany, New Jersey. He served both as a commissioner of the Essex County Improvement Authority and New Jersey State Lottery Commission.
He was a lifelong member of Temple B’nai Abraham. An avid golfer, Mr. Slater was a member of Green Brook Country Club, Crestmont Country Club, and Essex County Country Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Beverly Slater, and his brother Fredric Slater and sister-in-law Trudy Slater, his children Allyson Price, Richard Slater, E.J. Slater, Danielle Slater, Lauren Swigert, and Teddy Swigert, and his six grandchildren, Alary Price, Danica Price, Maclean Price, Samantha Slater, Lilly Swigert, and Leo Swigert.
Funeral services will be held at Temple B’nai Abraham, 300 E. Northfield Road, Livingston, New Jersey, on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
