Sara Sorce

Sara M. Sorce (nee Sanfilippo) of East Hanover, passed away at her home of over 50 years, on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the age of 91.

Born in Milwaukee, WI to the late Bastiana and Louis Sanfilippo, Sara moved to Montclair, NJ in 1945, Bloomfield in 1947, Verona in 1958, and East Hanover in 1968.

Sara graduated from Riverside High School in 1945 and was their Valedictorian. Her poem “Reflections on 50 years of Marriage” penned in 2000 was published and later recorded. Sara dedicated her life to always learning new things, and working hard at whatever she did to support her six children.

Sara held many jobs over the years starting at Westinghouse Electric in Bloomfield NJ and ending her career with Tops Appliance City in East Hanover before retiring in 1993.

She was predeceased by her husband Salvatore A. Sorce Jr. and son Salvatore J. Sorce, III (Tut).

She is survived by her five children Nina Sorce, Louis Sorce and his wife Margaret, Ann Prizzi, Rose Sorce, and Frank Sorce and his wife Tanya, siblings Dr. Louis Sanfilippo and his wife Ismene, Concetta Angelino, Mary DiRienzo, Paula Sanfilippo and Joyce Anzalone, grandchildren Anthony Sorce, Dominic Sorce, Sarah Prizzi, Frankki Sorce, Joseph Prizzi, Samuel Sorce, Sydney Sorce, Zachery Boettcher and Krista Boettcher, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is being held at the LaMonica Memorial Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston, on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 4-8 pm.

The Funeral will begin at the funeral home Friday, April 12, 2019 at 8:45 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rose of Lima Church in East Hanover at 9:45 am. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
