Sylvia was a proud graduate of Weequahic High School in 1939, after which she completed “Miss Whitman’s Finishing School.”
She was a devoted mother and homemaker, and loved Mahjong, needlepoint, and family. In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Sylvia co-owned a women’s clothing boutique in Verona called “The Other Place”.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Leo, with whom she shared 38 happy years, and whom she missed so much during the last 37. She is also predeceased by her parents, Rose and Henry Zahn, and by her older sister, Mildred August.
She is survived by her children, Douglas Kadison (Carol) of Austin, Texas and Hetty Balanoff (Tom) of Highland Park, Illinois and by her grandchildren, Bret Kadison, Zachary Kadison, Benjamin Balanoff, and Laura Balanoff.
