

Cynthia Joan Willis, a beloved wife, sister, and friend, passed away on October 29, 2024, in Livonia, Michigan, at the age of 83. Born in Alpena, Michigan, and raised in Rogers City, she graduated from high school in 1959 and pursued her passion for nursing at the North Central School of Practical Nursing in Traverse City, where she earned her LPN in 1962. She furthered her education at Duke University, focusing on operating room procedures.
Cynthia devoted her career to nursing, starting at several hospitals before finding her home at Beaumont Hospital in the Detroit area, where she served as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over a decade. Her compassion and dedication touched the lives of many patients and colleagues throughout her career.
Cynthia met her loving husband, William “Bill” Willis, at a party in 1975. Their connection was immediate, leading to a beautiful relationship that culminated in their marriage on Christmas Eve in 1977. Together, they embarked on many adventures, including RVing and a memorable year-long trip to Washington, D.C., during Bill’s Army training and cherished travels to Alaska and Ireland.
A devoted member of St. Colette parish for many years, Cynthia was known for her generous spirit, love for knitting and crafting, and the warmth she brought to her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Bill; siblings Mark (Janice) Smolinski of Petoskey, Kenneth (Marcia) Zielinski of Whitehall, and Donald Smolinski of Swartz Creek; and sister-in-law Carmeline Smolinski. She is also survived by numerous cherished nieces and nephews, as well as close friends who were touched by her kindness.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Smolinski of Rogers City; her sister, Janice Ann and brother, Dean Smolinski. Her legacy of love, compassion, and creativity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
In accordance with Cynthia's wishes, cremation will take place. A Memorial Mass will take place at 10:30am on Monday, November 11, 2024, at St. Colette Catholic Church, 17600 Newburgh Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Immediately following the Mass, Cynthia's family will receive guests for a luncheon at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152.
