Edna Alene Davenport of Livonia, Michigan passed away at home June 17, 2020 at the age of 95. Alene was born May 6, 1925 in Hazelgreen, Missouri to Tony Harrison Bales and Gladys Bramley (Wilson) Bales. Alene was one of six children: Marion, Bill, Bob, Nadine Sewell, and Doris Brown.
Alene married Lynn William Davenport January 17, 1943. He left shortly afterwards for the war where he was in the Army service. They had three children: Lindra Elaine Brockett, Billie Gail Barkman, and Gerald Don Davenport; eight grandchildren: Colin Mont Cox, Meghan Maze, Colleen Shepis, Erin Foltz, Patrick Curran, Lou Barkman, Trisha Koury and Julie Chouinard; as well as fourteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family moved westward in 1949 to Oregon where they settled and raised their family. In addition to raising a loving family, Alene was a great homemaker with many talents. She was a superb seamstress making all her children’s clothes, her husband’s shirts and her own clothes. She always made the doll’s wardrobes for her daughters’ dolls and later for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The utility shelves were always lined with beautiful colorful jars of canned fruits and vegetables and of course she was a great cook. Everyone knew of Alene’s pies from near and far. She made all kinds, but coconut cream and chocolate seemed to be the favorites.
No services are planned due to Covid, but her Livonia family will be gathering to celebrate her life and remember the way she filled our lives.
Her ashes will later be taken to Myrtle Creek, Oregon and put in her grave site beside her husband. The Oregon family will gather at this time for their celebration of a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
