Edward was born on November 17, 1935 in Highland Park, Michigan to parents Rose and Samuel Harpootlian. He was the youngest of 3 children--including brother Harry (deceased) and sister Jessie. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps actively serving his Country from 1955 to 1958 with tours of duty in San Diego, Japan, and Quantico. After Honorable discharge with a rank of 'Corporal', he worked as a Draftsman at Michigan Consolidated Gas Company in Detroit where he met his beloved wife, Marilyn, who he married in 1962.
In 1966, he started working at Federal Mogul Corporation as an Engineer and Supervisor in the Bearing Group. He spent the rest of his career at FMC--retiring in 1995.
Ed received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from Lawrence Technological University in 1972 after spending 13 years in night school--an example of his impressive determination and high personal value of education.
Ed and Marilyn started raising their family in Detroit with two kids, Jeffrey (1968) and Laureen (1971). In 1977, they moved the family to Northville where they have resided in the same house until his death.
He had a passion for sports starting back when he lettered in Cross Country and Baseball at Cooley High School in Detroit--graduating in 1953. That love of sports carried him throughout his life Coaching youth baseball teams in Northville from 1981 thru 1986 and serving as President of the Northville Junior Baseball Board in 1983. He was an avid fan of Detroit Pro Sports and hardly ever missed a Pistons, Tigers, or Lions game his entire life. He also loved Track and Field.
Among his other hobbies, he enjoyed staying busy in his yard--receiving multiple beautification awards from the City of Northville for the appearance of his property.
As he got older, Ed became very busy with his four grandchildren--Joseph (24), Olivia (19), Adam (17), and Shannon (16). He loved to attend all their activities--rarely missing a sporting or special event.
Among the many things about him that will be missed is his dedication to his family, his love for his Country, and his strong Christian faith.
