Elden H. Plue was born July 13, 1928 to Ralph and Florence Plue in Monroeville, Ohio. Elden peacefully passed away on August 27, 2024 at the age of 96. Beloved husband of the late Lenore M. Plue for 70 wonderful years. Loving father of Roger (Susan) Plue, Ellen (Alan) Sadler, and the late Robert Plue. Cherished grandfather of Katrina Niemisto, Lauren (Scott) Leigh, Hannah Plue, Morgan Plue, Matthew Plue and Brendan Plue. Dear brother of Lynn Helm. Much loved uncle, friend, and brother to all who knew him.
He graduated in 1946 from Western High School in Detroit, Michigan where he met his wife, Lenore. They married after both finished their degrees, on May 26, 1951. Elden received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Detroit, and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1953, attaining the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Their first child Roger was born to them while stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
After leaving the service, he and Lenore bought a home in Livonia Michigan, in 1955. They lived there for 45 years or so, adding both Ellen and Robert to the family. He and Lenore joined Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church in Livonia in 1956 and he was very active in the life of the church, serving as an Elder on Session, as a long-time member of the Building Committee, and as one of the founding members of the Rosedale Men's Club.
In his younger years, he was active in the church bowling league, loved boating, camping with the family, traveling, and going deer hunting every year. He enjoyed golf, gardening, and cooking, as well as spending time at their lake cottage near Brighton. Always fascinated by airplanes and flying, he decided to earn his pilot’s license in his late 40’s. He was quite proud of that, and took people on rides many times.
There didn’t seem to be anything Elden couldn’t fix or build, repairing and installing appliances, cabinets, doors, building sheds, steps and did a lot of car maintenance through the years. He had any tool you could imagine or need and knew exactly where they were at all times. He was great at advising anyone who asked, the right way to fix or build anything.
Elden was employed by the Detroit Tube Products as manager of sales and chief engineer for 50 years until his retirement in 1993. After retiring, he and Lenore enjoyed more travel, and took a second trip to visit cousins in Germany. In the mid 90’s they moved to a condo in Westland where they lived until Lenore’s death. Elden moved to Independent living in Brighton, and enjoyed the activities and new friendships there.
Elden had a lot of friends through the years, from school days, college, the service, church and where-ever he lived. Friends he enjoyed spending time with on trips, or playing cards, or just over a good meal. He appreciated every visit from friends and family.
Deeply proud of his children and grandchildren, he was particularly proud that all three children earned college degrees, and advanced degrees, and that his six grandchildren did as well.
A memorial visitation for Elden will be held Friday, October 18, 2024 from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM followed by a memorial luncheon in the church fellowship hall at Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church, 9601 Hubbard St, Livonia, MI 48150.
