Having worked with Hal over many years and in many positions, he will be remembered as a consummate professional, a team player and always a gentle man.  He will be missed, as will the impact he made on those with whom he came in contact.   Rest in Peace, friend...

I remember Hal as one of the managers in the Service Center in Dearborn  (1971).  Diane Lueking was the manager.  He always was easy-going, and it was a pleasure to work with him.  He still looked as handsome as I remember him.  He lived a  long life and I'm sure his family will miss him.


Rest in peace my friend.  You were a valued and trusted friend.  Your legacy lives on with your wonderful family.  Nancy, Tenley and Jan know that your father was loved and respected by many and always thought the world of you girls.   He will be missed.

I recall all the years visiting with Mom and Dad in Livonia and knowing the longstanding friendship which Beloved Hal and Carol shared with my parents and other neighbors.  It was a relationship of mutual respect, kindness, and generosity.   We were deeply grateful for your parents' and family's generous kindness following Dad's passing.   Moreover, I always enjoyed chatting with Hal and Carol from time to time over the years -- and I witnessed the tremendous love, pride, and joy which Hal and Carol felt for their beautiful grandchildren, and for you, their loving devoted daughters.   "Family was always  First" and  so important to Hal and to Carol.  Keep all the good memories alive!   May you and your families be granted health, strength, and faith to carry on. My memories include times at Torch lake,
Hal helping to teach me snow and water ski .Hal was always up beat, full of energy and he brought out the best in everyone around him.
Hal was like a dad to me a best friend of my Dads as well I have too many good memories and laughs to post so I’ll just say he will be missed greatly but always remembered .Happy sailing Hal!!

We want you to know that our heartfelt sympathy is with you all and we will keep your Dad and Mom in out memory forever. It was so nice that you shared all the precious pictures of both your Mom and Dad as well as your families. We will always fondly remember the house parties with your parents and the wonderful visits to Torch lake. We are still thankful for your Dad's expertise in a few tutoring lessons for our daughter Sabine, who got lost in 10th grade math and then she passed the class with flying colors. It was wonderful to  share a great friendship with your parents and watching you girls grow up.  This friendship lasted even after IBM moved us to Florida, and with many phone calls and occasional visits to Michigang, our friendship stayed alive.

Tenley, so sorry to hear of your and your family's loss.  

Your Dad was a great guy not only to work with but, more importantly, to go to lunch with.  I never met anyone who took lunch as seriously as your Dad did.  He will forever be remembered as the architect of our many outings to Hefty's.

Pat and I are very sorry for your loss and wish you and your family nothing but the best going forward from this difficult time.

Hal and Carol were in and out of my life for more than 50 years. It all started when the Livonia Parks & Recreation put Hal and I together with a few of our friends to start an adult basketball team in the Livonia League. Our rag-tag team actually won the league playoffs that first year. That was the high-water mark for us! But the best part wasn't the basketball games, it was the Jackson's basement with ping-pong and Carol's refreshments after the games. I'll always remember one of my friends saying that Carol would be his ideal of the perfect wife. They made quite a pair with Carol's vivaciousness and Hal's integrity (he seemed like the dad I never had). Hal left teaching and Livonia for a career with IBM. We ran into each other when they returned which allowed us to get together again on the court but this time it was tennis, not basketball. Those were infrequent but I always enjoyed Hal's company. Our times together became more regular when I discovered them at a marriage retreat that my wife and I had helped organize. I approached Hal from the back and said, "Let's get a basketball team together". That was a joke - I was 58 and Hal was 69.  The first thing Carol said was how grateful she was for shoveling snow in her driveway in 1963 while Hal was away. How is that for gratitude? From then on it was touching base with them at church every Sunday and visiting Torch Lake every time we went up north. I will miss them as a wonderful picture of what a marriage can be and one of my longest-running friendships. We are praying for your whole family.

Tenley and all, you have my thoughts and prayers at this time. The memories of Hal will remain with me. He was one of the first IBM "experts" I had the pleasure of dealing with as a rookie IBM salesman and those early years as well as later ones  were characterized by professionalism, hard work and good sport. Tenley, you will be blessed with many memories and I wish the best for you. Take are, Jim


So many years of lovely memories, wonderful dinners overlooking Torch Lake, Dewey's Birthday parties at the Cottage and, most importantly, tennis with Hal and The Raqueteers. I had so hoped I would see Hal and Carol again. Extraordinary friends to have had.  Hal was a quiet genius with a droll sense of humor. So special. I send love and deepest sympathy as would have Dewey.
