Born on September 24, 1943, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to her parents Theodore and Mildred Wegner, Janice lived a life filled with faith, devotion, and love.
Beloved wife of Dennis Knaus for 60 wonderful years, Janice was the cherished mother of Julie (Michael) Gunkelman and Jodi (Todd) Goodhew. She was the proud and devoted grandmother of Kristin Gunkelman, Ryan Gunkelman, Adam Goodhew, and Nathan Goodhew. She is also survived by her dear siblings, Theodore H. (Judy) Wegner and Kathy (Lowell) Skelton; her loving niece and nephew, Ted Wegner and Gretchen (Jason) Lynch; and many extended family and friends who will hold her memory close.
Janice grew up in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, where she graduated from Menomonee Falls High School before earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin. She and Dennis grew up just down the street from each other and had known one another since childhood. They began dating as teenagers and shared a lifelong love. Though her parents insisted she finish college before marrying, Janice and Dennis remained devoted to one another, and they truly have been each other’s one and only for a lifetime.
After college, Janice and Dennis married and together built a family rooted in love and strong values. After working in the library at the local high school, Janice and her family relocated to Michigan in 1982, where she enjoyed a long and dedicated career with Roush Industries.
She was a woman of deep faith and service, teaching Sunday School for many years, serving as a Girl Scout leader, and giving her time to Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Hope Lutheran Church through the Stephen Ministry program. Her heart for others was reflected in everything she did.
Janice’s greatest joy came from being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved shopping, reading, cooking, and hosting holiday gatherings that brought everyone together. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
