Joan Antoinette Nogas (Née Hebert) passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 19th, surrounded by family. She was a warm and vibrant presence, known for her kindness, love of conversation, and remarkable ability to make a friend wherever she went. Joan’s genuine nature and generous spirit brought joy to those around her, and whether she was sharing stories, offering a listening ear, or simply spending time with her loved ones, she made everyone feel special and valued. Her compassion and warmth left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born in Detroit to Gerard and Evelyn Hebert, Joan was a lifelong resident of Livonia, where she built a life filled with love, creativity, and dedication to those around her. She had an artistic spirit and a passion for photography, capturing life’s moments with a keen eye for beauty.
Joan began her career as a chemist but ultimately chose to stay home to raise her children, a role she cherished. As her family grew, she returned to work and built a long and successful career in the office furniture business. Her hard work, attention to detail, and warm personality made her a valued colleague and friend to many.
She met her husband, Richard (Dick) Nogas, at a University of Detroit dance, and together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Their life was full of adventures, from their travels and summers at Houghton Lake to their shared search for the perfect clam linguine. Joan’s warmth and generosity made their home in Livonia a welcoming place for family and friends for over 50 years.
A devoted mother, Joan cherished her children, Beth Marschner and Eric Nogas, and found immense joy in her grandchildren, Jackson David Nogas, Samantha Joan Marschner, and Sydney Renee Nogas. She was also blessed to be a great-grandmother to Norland David Canouts IV. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she never missed an opportunity to share in their milestones and celebrations.
Joan is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard, and her parents, Gerard and Evelyn Hebert.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, devoted daughter-in-law Christa Fritz-Nogas, her brother Gerard Hebert, sister-in-law Tammy Hebert, niece Julie Hebert, nephew Paul Hebert and his wife Heather, and their children Walter and Louis Hebert, along with many cherished cousins.
A visitation will be held at Harry J Will Funeral Home, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan, 48152, on Friday, March 28th, from 2:30 PM to 8:00 PM, with a time for sharing memories at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 29th, at 11:00 AM (gathering at 10:30 AM), also at the funeral home.
Joan’s kindness, creativity, and warmth touched the lives of many, and her legacy of love will be carried on by all who knew her.
