Josephine Gauci

Josephine Gauci, born in Valletta, Malta, on July 30, 1935, to Victor and Grace (Said) Vella, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024. Josephine was immensely proud of her Maltese heritage, and although she moved to the United States in the 1950s, she frequently returned to Malta to visit family and stay connected to her roots.

A devout Catholic, Josephine’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was dedicated to her spiritual journey and found great comfort in her beliefs. Alongside her devotion, Josephine was an avid traveler, with a special fondness for Malta, the Holy Land, the Galápagos Islands and Africa, where she cherished the beauty of nature and discovery.

Her love for history was matched only by her passion for engaging in spirited debates. Josephine relished thoughtful conversation and lively discussions with friends and family on a variety of topics. She had a warm, generous heart, and cherished spending time with her loved ones. Her beloved Maltese dogs—JakeJohn, Benjamin, and Beau—held a special place in her heart, offering her joy and companionship.

To cherish her memory, Josephine leaves behind two daughters , PierAngela Gauci and Lisa (Kent) Takacs, and two grandchildren, Paul Edward (Samantha) Takacs and Joseph Daniel (Abigail) Takacs. She is also survived by two nieces, Ann Marie (Jon) Cassar Torregiani and Victoria Ann Grech.

In addition to her parents, Josephine is preceded in death by her husband Paul, her sister Marlene Colerio, and nephew-in-law Paul Grech.

A visitation for Josephine will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Harry J. Will Funeral Homes, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. A rosary will begin at 7:00 PM.

Josephine will lie in state on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at St Colette Catholic Church, 17600 Newburgh Rd, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Her life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass beginning at 10:30 AM.
