Joyce Lee Pike, 80, of Westland passed away on October 5, 2021. Joyce was born on November 30, 1940, in Detroit to William and Daisy (nee: Funk) Hishok. As a young person, Joyce played the violin through high school in the Chadsey High School Concert Orchestra. In addition, she had the opportunity to play with the Detroit Youth Symphony. She was a self- proclaimed tomboy who loved playing sports and often dreamed of being a youth recreation counselor. While in high school she met Arthur "Jack" Pike who later became her husband in 1961. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage together before his passing.
Joyce had a career as a Postal Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 31 years at the Livonia Post Office, where she received numerous awards. Joyce was very hard working, but somehow always managed to cook Sunday dinners for her parents and siblings, had a clean house with dinner on the table, and raised a family. She retired in 1999 and was a 53 year, dues paying member of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). In addition, she was a member of the National Active & Retired Federal Employees to protect Federal employee benefits. When not working Joyce and Jack were known to love a good party with family and friends. Joyce also loved to bowl and travel. Joyce and Jack built their "happy place" summer home on Sage Lake near Hale, Michigan. Joyce most importantly cherished time with her family, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Sherry Pike Maironis and Lisa (Randy) Spader; grandchildren, Shannon (Scott) Cullen, Stacey (David) Mefford, Jonas (Valerie) Maironis, Justin Spader, Justine Spader, Kori Spader and Kristopher Spader; great-grandchildren, Sofia Mefford, Lily Cullen, Reese Mefford, Kyle Cullen, Mia Mefford, Cooper Cullen and Whitney Mefford; brother-in-law, Gardner "Pete" Pike, and sister-in-law, Gloria Pike; and favorite cousin Mary Margaret Smith as well as many nieces and nephews.
