

Kathaleen Bernadette Acton, passed away suddenly on September 3, 2025 at home. She was born in Baraga, Michigan on September 8, 1944 to Herbert and Rosemary Shulstad. She graduated from Baraga High School in 1963 and was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. After earning her bachelor’s degree from Ferris State University, where she was president of Alpha Zeta Delta sorority, Kathaleen worked for many years as an accountant.
She married the love of her life, Robert Acton, on December 27, 1966 and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, adventure, and devotion, raising two cherished daughters.
Kathaleen had a generous heart and a creative spirit. She was an avid knitter and sewer, crafting countless blankets, hats, and scarfs that she joyfully gifted to family and friends. Her handiwork continues to warm the homes and hearts of those who knew her.
Kathaleen enjoyed bowling in leagues, and while she eventually had to step away from the game, the friendships she formed remained strong. She continued to make time for her bowling friends and always treasured those lasting bonds.
She was an avid sports fan, enjoyed keeping up with friends and family, but above all else, Kathaleen adored her four grandchildren. She was their biggest fan, attending their events and milestones.
Kathaleen is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Robert; daughters Stephanie (Massimo) Corona and Melissa (Chris) Ralph; grandchildren Austin, Nicholas, Griffin, and Everett; sister Pauline Goodreau; and her beloved dog, Maggie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Rosemary Shulstad, and her sister, Rosalie Warra.
No formal services will be held at this time. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Michigan Humane Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, two causes close to her heart.
Kathaleen will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, quiet strength, and deep love for her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and handmade warmth that will be cherished forever.
