Mike graduated from Cody High School in 1968. From 1969 to 1971 he served in the Army and toured in Vietnam. Mike married the love of his life, Charlene, on August 6, 1971, and together they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, raising two beloved children and building a life filled with joy, humor, and generosity.
A proud and skilled journeyman electrician, Mike worked for over 30 years at Ford Motor Company, retiring from the Dearborn plant. He was a dedicated member of Local Union 245 and took great pride in his craft and work ethic.
Known by many as the funniest person they’d ever met, Mike had a uniquely silly and lighthearted spirit that made everyone feel welcome. He had many passions—he loved to golf, spend time boating and fishing, and had an incredible artistic talent, especially with watercolor painting. A true movie buff, Mike also enjoyed collecting DVDs and was a lifelong fan of Godzilla.
Mike was a generous man who gave freely of his time and heart. His memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Charlene; his children, Kelly (Brendan) Dane and Michael Cotter II; and his grandson, Ryan Kupsh. He is also survived by his sister, Carol (the late Roger) Hanson; sisters-in-law Diane (Mark) Zaya and Marcia Belik; and his nieces and nephews: David Zaya, Brian Zaya, Roger Hanson, and Wayne Hanson, Gabrielle (Thomas) Mansell.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Helen and Sam Loacano.
In honor of Mike’s life and spirit, memorial donations are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Mike was a man who brought laughter and warmth wherever he went and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
