Born on June 30, 1937, to Nathaniel and Helen Warner, Peter lived a life defined by faith, intellect, dedication, and deep love for his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Cynthia Warner, who preceded him in death in 2024. Together, they shared a beautiful 60-year marriage rooted in devotion, partnership, and faith.
Peter was a loving and devoted father to Michael (Maureen), Paul (Cheri), Mary Ellen, Andrew (Kelly), and the late John. He was a cherished grandfather to Olivia, Anastasia, Zachary, Sabrina, Alex (Karlie), Tommy (Allie), James, Skye, Charles, and Henry. His family was the center of his life, and he took great pride in being present, engaged, and supportive in each of their lives.
A graduate of Marmion Military Academy, Peter continued his education at St. Joseph’s College, in Illinois, for his undergrade studies, a graduate degree from University of Detroit and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Wayne State University (WSU). His passion for learning and discovery led him to a distinguished career as an Analytical Chemist specializing in air pollution control for Wayne County. Highly respected in his field, Peter was the author of one of the first analytical chemistry textbooks and served as Department Chair for Pharmacy and Health Sciences at WSU. He also shared his knowledge as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Michigan. Throughout his career, he received numerous honors, including recognition from Sacred Heart Seminary, reflecting both his professional excellence and dedication to education.
Peter had a lifelong love of reading, always eager to learn and explore new ideas. Outside of his professional life, he found great joy in sailing, especially on the waters of Lake St Clair, where he spent many cherished days with his children. As a longtime member of the Grosse Pointe Sail Club, he formed lasting friendships and created treasured memories on the water.
He was an active and devoted husband and father who loved taking his family on camping trips and spending meaningful time together. His Catholic faith was a guiding force throughout his life. Peter and Cynthia were faithful parishioners of St. Ambrose Catholic Church from 1971 until their recent move in 2022 when they joined St Kenneth’s in Plymouth, MI. Together, they were dedicated members of Teams of Our Lady, forming lasting bonds with other couples and traveling internationally as representatives. His faith sustained him and was something he generously shared with others.
Peter also had a deep appreciation for art and music, passions he shared with his beloved wife Cynthia. He will be remembered as a man who was intelligent, accomplished, a story teller, kind, and deeply faithful, a life well lived and a legacy that will endure through all who knew and loved him.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church at a later date.
