Raymond Craig Daniels, beloved husband, father, brother, friend, and mentor, passed away on May 10, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on October 11, 1949, in Adrian, Michigan, to Merle and Betty (Thompson) Daniels, Craig lived a life devoted to service, connection, and love.
Craig attended Eastern Michigan University, where he was a proud member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, earned his undergraduate degree, and met the love of his life, Linda. The two were married on August 21, 1970, and shared 54 joyful years together. He went on to earn his master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan.
A dedicated social worker, Craig spent many years serving others at St. Joseph Hospital. After retirement, he returned to Eastern Michigan University, working as a mental health counselor. Craig was deeply committed to helping others, and his impact on countless lives—through his professional work and his personal example—was immeasurable.
Craig was a beacon in the recovery community, celebrating over 45 years of sobriety. Through his involvement in 12-step programs, he not only transformed his own life but also walked alongside many others in their journeys, sponsoring and supporting them with unwavering compassion and wisdom.
A man of many passions, Craig enjoyed playing cards and games with friends and was known for attending a Friday night poker game, filled with laughter and camaraderie. He was a devoted Star Trek fan and an enthusiastic supporter of University of Michigan athletics, especially football—he proudly held season tickets for over 40 years and cheered on his team with unmatched loyalty.
To cherish his memory, Craig leaves behind his loving wife Linda; two children, Olly and Robyn Daniels; siblings Bill Rodgers, Diane Garno, and Lori Sturdevant; his “adopted” son Lorenzo Hinton; and his cherished fur baby, Zandi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Betty, and his beloved dog, Vader.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Craig’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and deep service. He will be remembered always for the lives he touched, the hearts he lifted, and the family and friends he loved so dearly.
