Bob's life began June 4, 1932 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He was the only child of William and Elsie (Wright) Bulmer. Bob spent his early years growing up in Hamilton with his parents and so many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Raised in the Anglican Church, Bob's faith has always been an important part of his life from a very early age. In his early teen's, Bob moved with his parents to Dearborn, and they all became US citizens. His father was a barrel maker until he lost his sight and his mother a hairdresser. Bob was always busy growing up with friends and working odd jobs around the neighborhood. Bob was a graduate of The Henry Ford Trade School. After graduation he proudly served in the US Navy aboard a destroyer (USS Smalley). In between serving our country he became employed at Chrysler. Bob spent 7.5 years serving our country. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, Bob continued a career at Chrysler Corporation (McGraw Glass Plant) and retired after 25 years. Retirement was never in Bob's vocabulary. He worked for many years as a contractor for automotive vendors and spent over 15 years in the funeral industry. He found a passion in helping families during their time of need. He finally retired about 2.5 years ago from Harry J. Will Funeral Homes.
On June 6, 1959, Bob was united in Marriage to Nancy Jane Kluwe at a lovely ceremony at Divinity Lutheran Church in Detroit. The church was filled with family and friends joining with them in this celebration. Bob & Nancy's first home was on Colonial in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. After outgrowing their home they moved their family to "far away" Canton Township in 1972 and have resided there since. It is here were their children (David William, Julie Anne, Douglas Robert & Robert William Jr.) were raised. Spending time together as a family, celebrating the holidays, & birthdays was extremely important to Bob all the while creating lifelong memories along the way.
Bob was exceedingly proud to be a Charter Member of St. Michael Lutheran Church. He was involved in so many aspects as the church grew from meeting in member basements, school gyms and into the very first building which is now encompassed in the church building after a number of expansions. Bob was involved in many ministry programs, church council and most of all his love for being part of the Men's Good Friday Breakfast in which he was in attendance for over 4 decades.
In his free time Bob enjoyed being with friends and family. Bob loved to be active ALL THE TIME. Whether playing golf, biking, reading, volunteering at the Canton Library & Humane Society of Huron Valley. Traveling with friends to Hawaii, Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, Branson, MO and several cruises were highlights for him. Bob & Nancy also travelled for many years for Bob's Navy Shipmate Reunions held all over the country. Also very memorable & enjoyable were many trips to see family in Canada. Wintering in Boca Ciega located in Largo, FL became a big part of his life in the last ten years or so. Making friends with all, whether helping Bingo, "Can Crushing", playing cards, enjoying the many potlucks, or any of the many outings. Bob enjoyed everyone and cherished his time spent there.
In the fall of 2017 Bob was honored to be selected to receive an "Honor Flight" to Washington DC. Honor Flight Network recognizes American veterans for your sacrifices and achievements by flying you to Washington DC to see YOUR memorial at no cost. This was an incredible trip filled with love and memories to treasure forever.
Bob was a very optimistic person. Always ready with a hug and a warm welcome, his outlook was always positive. Bob loved life, God, his family and many friends. He will always be remembered for his kindness, wit, and fun loving spirit.
His memory will be cherished by his son's Doug (Darlene) & Rob (Chris), Son in law Roy Sutherland, 7 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and a large circle of friends. Bob & Nancy's life was forever changed December 22, 2019 when their only daughter Julie Ann passed away. Four months later, Nancy Jane, his beloved wife of nearly 61 years died April 25, 2020. Now all three are united together and resting in the loving arms of Jesus.
