As a young man, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving during World War II. Following his Naval service, Robert settled in Metro-Detroit, later becoming an active member of St. Valentine Parish in Redford. Robert was a fan of his hometown teams. He proudly cheered on the Detroit Tigers and Lions.
Robert provided for his family through his work as a regional manager in various grocery companies including Great Scott and Farmer Jacks. Although his job kept him busy, he always found time to spend with his family. He was especially fond of holidays. It was not uncommon for Robert to be seen in costume on Halloween, trying to scare his daughters.
Following retirement Robert and his wife Joan moved to South Lyon, where they settled into the Colonial Acres Community. Robert continued to stay active volunteering with their Men's Club, helping to organize the community breakfasts and various other events. Robert and Joan also found a new church home, becoming parishioners of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A quiet and unassuming man, Robert had a heart of gold. He will be deeply missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Robert was the loving husband of the late Joan for 56 years. Cherished father of Susan Utych, Kathleen McIntyre and Carol McIntyre. Proud grandfather of Bryan and Ben Utych. Robert was also preceded in death by brothers Dick and Harry and son-in-law Tom Utych.
Robert's family will receive friends for a Memorial Gathering on Thursday November 10, 2016 from 2-8 pm, with a Prayer Service followed by Military Honors at 7 pm, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd (east of Newburgh and I-275) in Livonia.
