My father grew up in Detroit with Mr Rich and they've remained friends, so I've known him all my life.  I would still see him when he would come into our accounting office to have his taxes done.  He would talk with my Dad and always make a point to stop in my office and say hello and see how things were going.  This is very similar to my first memory of Mr Rich.  

I was 7, it was late fall of 1972 and I remember it like it was yesterday.   Their group of friends were meeting at our house for their monthly pinochle night.  My sister was only a month or two old.   Being a dutiful 70's kid I stood at the door to greet the people as they came in with my Mom who was holding my sister.  Of course everyone's attention went to my sister as they tried to make her smile and I stood their unnoticed but probably thankful for that.  Mrs and Mr Rich came in and of course Mrs Rich went right to my sister.  Mr Rich looked her over then looked down at me, got a big smile on his face,  reached out his hand and said "how's it goin' big John" and shook my hand.   That really made me feel like something special for him to acknowledge me, a 7 year old like that.  As I said, at 53, I still remember that simple gesture like it was yesterday and he continued on with that tradition every  time he saw me after that.

I have only known Bob for a few years but loved his smile and great personality. I will miss our dinners with Charlie French at Leon's restaurant. Bob and his late wife Mary were wonderful friends and I miss them both. The only conciliation is that they are together again in a better place.

We fought like cats & dogs as kids & Bob took offense when I borrowed his car without his knowledge from the Wrigley
parking lot where he worked as a grocery clerk. (1947 Ford). But as we both grew up (although far apart physically) I was proud of my brother who had raised a great family & was really well liked by his many friends. The last few years we chatted by phone more often & we had just talked  last week at Christmas.  It was a shock when Colleen called to say Bob had passed. I will really miss not hearing his voice to tell me all about his wonderful family & activities.
Rest in peace my brother you had a terrific life!

It is hard to imagine family gatherings without "Uncle Bob". I am blessed to have had 51 yrs of enjoying the laughter and love that he and Mary brought.  I look forward to their beautiful children and their spouses and their children  to carry on the Legacy of Bob and Mary.

So sorry to learn of Bob’s passing. 

It was always a delight to meet Bob with his omnipresent good humor, smile, and sense of brotherhood as a fellow Hibernian and Knight of Equity. 

I will miss him. 

I regret that travel will prevent me from being present at either the visitation or funeral but Bob and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers. 

May God greet you fondly, brother.

We send our heartfelt condolences to the Rich family. Bob was always very friendly to us whenever we saw him. Seemed he always had a smile on his face. He and Mary raised a wonderful family. He will be missed, although we're sure he will be glad to reunite with Mary.  May they both Rest in Peace.
